A recent report by the London School of Economics has highlighted the benefits to the economy of cycling – better health, less obesity, longer life, less congestion, less pollution…. However, there is no mention of the significant effect on employment or income of making bike parking. Cycle-works makes many of its products locally, generating significant income and benefits. We are now exporting, bringing extra income into the economy. Bike parking is a ‘hidden’ but vital component in cycling, and it should be considered as a benefit, rather than a cost.
