For this locking option, the user is identified electronically and allowed access to a particular locker, for example, a Velo-Safe or Velo-Box locker. The user can be charged to use the locker, or it can just be done as a method of control/allocation.

These can be stand-alone IT systems or linked into an existing access system, e.g. a university, residential or hospital access system. They can also be linked to various payment and identification mechanisms.

Most systems require users to sign up for a particular scheme, giving personal details and either bank or credit card details as security and identification. Some systems allow the users to look at the availability of spaces online, and even book places, while others use mobile phone technology.
