Electronic Access

At Cycle-Works, we believe that the future for many sites is electronic access, as it overcomes many of the issues with traditional cycle parking. There are various options available.

Secure rooms

These are simply access controlled rooms, with either stand-alone IT systems, (e.g. Bikey) or linked into an existing access system, e.g. university or hospital access system. Secure rooms can also be linked to various existing payment and identification mechanisms, e.g. the Transport for London Oystercard. More information on our custom made solutions.

Electronic Access Compound

Electronic control of individual racks

For this option, a user is identified electronically, and is allowed access to a particular rack. The user can be charged to use the rack, or it can just be done as a method of control/allocation.

Electronic or digital control of a multi-bike store or shelter

This is where a user is identified, and is allowed access to a particular multi-bike store or shelter. The user can be charged to use the bike-store, or it can just be done as a method of control/allocation.

Electronic control of individual lockers

For this option, the user is identified electronically, and is allowed access to a particular locker. The user can be charged to use the rack, or it can just be done as a method of control/allocation.

These can be stand-alone IT systems, (e.g. Bikey and Velo-Safe) or linked into an existing access system, e.g. a university or hospital access system. They can also be linked to various payment and identification mechanisms eg the Transport for London Oystercard. More information on our Velo-Safe locker and Velo-Box locker, both of which are able to be fitted with electronic access.

Electronic Velo-Safe

Most systems require users to sign up for a particular scheme, giving personal details and either bank or credit card details as security and identification. Some systems allow the users to look at availability of spaces online, and even book places, while others use mobile phone technology.

For example, it is already possible to book Cycle-Safe bike lockers online or by mobile phone at several sites in the US.

Several hundred Bikey lockers are currently in operation at many sites in the VRR area of northern Germany (the major Ruhr industrial area), and Cycle-works are now the sole UK distributors of this very sophisticated and proven system.

Digital control of individual lockers

Lockers can also be controlled with the use of a digital lock. The user can be charged to use the locker, or it can just be done as a method of control/allocation
